Student organizations sometimes wish to raise funds for a cause that their organization supports. This is possible as long as the organization follows these guidelines:
1. Eligibility
- Individual Yale College students may not fundraise using university resources or spaces.
- Student-run fundraisers using university resources or spaces may only be promoted or sponsored by registered undergraduate student organizations, the Yale College Council, or in conjunction with an on-campus student performance.
2. Recipients of contributions
- Fundraisers may only be held for U.S.-based, registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.
3. Collection of funds
- All donations must be collected electronically and go directly to the receiving organization. Students may not collect cash donations, and funds may not pass through individual or group accounts.
4. Locations
- See Permitted Locations for Solicitation, Sales, and Fundraising on the Fundraising page. As with all in-person fundraising, you must request permission in advance and register your event with the Student Organizations office.
If your group is considering fundraising for an outside cause, please contact your SOC or email student.organizations@yale.edu, so that we can help guide you through the process.
