Regulations for Outside Organizations Sponsoring or Partnering with Registered Student Organizations at Yale
The Yale College Dean’s Office is dedicated to enriching the educational experience of undergraduates by fostering student leadership and involvement in diverse organizations. Participation in student-led groups enhances a student’s education by providing opportunities for personal development and growth beyond the classroom.
These regulations apply to all registered student organizations (“RSOs”) affiliated with Yale, including official Yale Chapters of national organizations, and to organizations sponsoring or partnering with an RSO.
Requirements for Sponsor/Partner Organizations:
- Sponsor/partner organization must be a legal entity, such as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation or other business entity.
- Mission of the sponsor/partner organization must align with the mission and values of Yale University
- All activities related to the sponsorship/partnership must comply with Yale College’s Undergraduate Regulations, Yale University Policy, and the recommendations of Yale Public Safety. If the policies and procedures of the sponsor/partnership organization conflict with Yale’s policies and procedures, Yale’s policies and procedures shall apply.
- Any complaint of unethical conduct made against the sponsor/partner organization or the affiliated Yale RS must be shared with the Yale College Dean’s Office immediately by emailing student.organizations@yale.edu.
- RSOs must be able to terminate their connection with the sponsor/partner organization at will.
Sponsor/Partner Organizations acknowledge and agree to the following:
- Any funding given by or to Yale University on behalf of the student organization, and any revenue generated from an RSO event (including joint events), must remain completely, and at all times, under the control of the student leaders and not be turned over to the sponsor/partner organization.
- Events held on campus by a RSO must be organized and run solely by the student organization, including guest registration.
- Yale is not responsible for debts incurred by RSOs.
- Students are not authorized to sign contracts on behalf of Yale University. Yale is not required to uphold contracts entered into by RSOs and will not be responsible for any such contracts.
- RSOs may not be used by for-profit entities to generate profits.
- Yale does not allow advertising on our campus for the sale of goods for profit.
- Sponsoring/partnering with a RSO does not allow the sponsor/partner organization to advertise broadly on Yale’s campus. Event sponsors/partners may be acknowledged and allowed a presence at an event at the discretion of the RSO.
- Use of the Yale name for literature, publicity, social media, and printing must be approved by Yale’s Office of Trademarks and Licensing.
- Neither students nor their sponsoring/partnering organizations have the authority to speak on behalf of Yale University. Sponsoring/partnering organizations do not have the authority to speak on behalf of RSOs or students.
